Badger has been married to “Little Ginny” for 36 years and they have twin daughters, now in their 20’s.
Hobbies: Obviously likes dressing up as a cowboy and playing with his pistol and is keen on leather work but doesn’t do much of that either now.
Also likes to go fly fishing for trout and his ambition is to catch one, one day!!!! He has a musical trait inherited from his father and likes to play keyboards, but only for his own enjoyment (that means he’s not good enough to play to an audience). He has also dabbled in song writing and was a member of the International song writers guild, but if asked to describe his work, the word “crap” would probably be used. He also used to play cornet (not the ice cream version) and trumpet in both his school band and Cadbury’s Silver Band. In his early twenties, he was told by his brothers to learn to play bass guitar and join their dance band, because they had a booking at a big club called “Rubery Social Club.” And needed to fill the stage. Yes folks, Badgers debut performance was on that very stage at the B bar B.
Favourite music: Obviously country music is his current love, although unlike most westerners, his preference lies not with traditional country, but with more modern sounds like Garth Brooks, Travis Tritt, Alan Jackson and the like. Badger also likes 60’s and 70’s sounds and hates 99% of the “monotonous”, “tuneless”, “mindless drivel that is produced today.
Favourite Films: First and foremost Comedies, of course westerns, most “action” movies. Hates “lovey dovey rubbish, most sci-fi and anything heavy going. “Films must entertain, and take me away from reality for a couple of hours, stuff like any Norman Wisdom film, the Carry Ons and more recently Harry Potter. Yes I do like films like Gladiator, The Last Samurai and Close Encounters, but whatever happened to musicals like Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, OK, OK we’ve seen it a thousand times, but it is pure fantasy, pure entertainment, and nobody makes musical comedy films any more”.
Favourite actors. “Never been any good at names, Clint of course, John Wayne, Lee Marvin. I do like people who make me laugh, people like Eddy Murphy, Steve Martin, Peter Sellers etc. and anyone else who succeeds in entertaining me.
Favourite Food: Not much of a connoisseur when it comes to food. Much prefers plain, wholesome, healthy food like CHIPS, BACON BUTTIES, DRIPPING SANDWICHES AND FRESH CREAM CAKES. (Only Joking I don’t eat many cream cakes!!!!) Seriously folks , I like Spaghetti bolognaise, roast dinners, the occasional indian takeaway and ANYTHING JENNY COOKS ME (you have to say that don’t you?) Hates shellfish, in particular muscles, oysters, scallops. winkles, cockles, etc as well as squid, but doesn’t mind crab, lobster, shrimps, prawn and most fish.
Hero’s: I think all early Western pioneers and settlers were hero’s.
To brave a new, unknown, uncharted land, a land of vast deserts and plains full of untold dangers and savagery AND ALL THIS WITHOUT A MICROWAVE OVEN, beats the hell outta me!!.
Likes and dislikes: “How long do you want this to go on for, I have become one of those grumpy old men, we all used to hate when we were younger. You know the sort, moaned at just about anything, never had a good word to say, Well that’s me now. In a nutshell, I hate:- Todays morality values, kids with no respect for anyone (that’s 99% of them), drivers who ignore road markings, traffic signs, the highway code and other drivers. Shoddy workmanship, being late, other people being late or not doing what they said they would (anybody recognise themselves here?) BUT MOST OF ALL I hate spotty faced kids (male or female) earning 3 times as much as me, who have been in my trade for 10 minutes, but already think they know more than me after 40 years. (sour grapes)
