BLUE RODEO 2008
Redditch Westerners Newsletter.
The Blue Rodeo staged for the first time at the new venue of Stratford Race Course, which was set to be the biggest and the longest, festival ever staged by The Westerners.
The site was prepared for the arrival of Campers, and Traders, by mid day on Thursday.
Entertainment was provided in the Marquee on Thursday, and Friday, evening by solo artists and disco, everyone enjoying a good selection of country music.
On Saturday we were open to day visitors, and we were honoured, to have The Rodeo opened by The Lady Mayor of Stratford. Western and State Flags were paraded into the arena led by Goose, also a company of Confederate’s were in support. The Mayor and her Consort enjoyed a brief tour of the site followed by a light snack I thank them both for their support, on behalf of The Redditch Westerners.
The weather on Saturday was poor for most of the day with rain and high winds, this required us to move the Bands into the Marquee, but despite the weather everyone made the most of a bad day and had a good time.
There was an individual Fast Draw competition on Saturday, which as usual was a close contest with two of our lady shooters in the semi final. The winner on Saturday was Lefty, and the runner/up was Kentucky kate Congratulations to both of you.
Sunday proved to be a better day despite a rainy start, although quite windy we did see some sunshine, and the Marquee became the focal point of activities for the bands and the dancers
On Sunday we had two Fast Draw contests, an individual, and The Magnificent Seven Teams contest, the individual Winner was Stranger, and the runner/up was Tennessee, well done to both, the ladies once again did themselves proud. The team shoot was won by R/W Team B, and the runners/up were R/W Team C, well done to all who took part. A final Shootout to decide the overall Champion took place this was won by Lefty, and Stranger was runner/up. Trophies were presented and the Rodeo closed with a parade of Flags and The Trilogies. May I thank all who attended The Rodeo, and those who worked to make the event a great success.
